Where to Watch New Year’s Eve Fireworks 2025/26 (Essex & London)

New Year’s Eve is one of the most spectacular nights of the year, and whether you’re planning to head out for a public display or celebrate from the comfort of your own garden, this guide has everything you need to know.

Below are the confirmed New Year’s Eve firework events for 2025/26 in Essex and London, along with tips for planning a safe night.

Confirmed New Year’s Eve Firework Displays

Not all fireworks are created equal; some are designed for large public shows, while many others are made for smaller gardens and family celebrations. When children are part of the fun, it’s important to choose fireworks that are safe, quiet and easy to manage.

Here’s a quick checklist to help you choose wisely:

1. Southend Seafront Fireworks

  • Date: 31st December 2025
  • Time: 6pm (family display) & midnight
  • Location: Southend Pier / Marine Parade

Back for the second year running, Southend will once again light up the sky with two free displays this New Year’s Eve. Both shows will be launched from a barge to the east of the pier, and will be visible all along the seafront.

Family Friendly Firework Display at 6pm

The 6pm display is ideal if you want to celebrate early. It’s especially great for families, as you can still enjoy the excitement of New Year’s Eve without staying out late.

Before the fireworks begin, there’s plenty to keep children entertained along the seafront. Southend’s seafront is packed with arcades, rides, cafes and food stalls, so you can easily spend an hour or two playing games and grabbing snacks before the show.

The atmosphere is relaxed, and it should be easy to find a good viewing spot anywhere along the seafront.

Midnight Firework Display

If you prefer the classic New Year’s countdown moment, the midnight display is the main event. This show is bigger and brighter than the earlier one, lighting up the whole coastline around the pier.

As midnight approaches, the seafront will get livelier, with crowds gathering to see in the New Year together. Many people enjoy the local bars, restaurants or late-night cafes before heading out for the countdown.

If you want a prime viewing spot, it’s worth arriving a little earlier, as it does get busy towards midnight.

2. London New Year’s Eve Display

  • Date: 31st December 2025
  • Time: Midnight
  • Location: Westminster (Near London Eye & Big Ben)

For the ultimate New Year’s Eve experience, the London fireworks are hard to beat. It’s a huge, ticketed event organised by the Greater London Authority and is known for being the UK’s largest public New Year’s fireworks display.

At midnight, Big Ben will chime and fireworks will explode into the sky above the London Eye and along the Thames.

As it’s a very popular event, the viewing areas are ticketed to help manage crowd size and safety, and you will need a ticket to access the official viewing zones.

If you don’t manage to secure one, don’t worry, there are still plenty of options. London offers lots of alternative spots along the riverside, as well as rooftop venues and ticketed events with brilliant views of the display.

Planning Your Own Garden Display at Home?

If you’d prefer to avoid the crowds this year, having your own garden display is a fun way to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

It gives you complete control over the night, and you can time your fireworks perfectly with the midnight countdown.

You don’t need a huge space to put on a good show either; there are plenty of garden-friendly fireworks that work well in smaller outdoor areas.

Best Fireworks for a Garden-Friendly New Year’s Display

If you’re planning a small display at home, choosing the right fireworks can make all the difference. Category F2 Garden fireworks are ideal to be used safely in small, outdoor spaces, and you can still create an impressive display.

Here are some great options for a garden-friendly New Year’s Eve display:

  • Single Ignitions: Probably the easiest thing to light on New Years Eve (especially if you’ve been celebrating with a few drinks). A complete display in a box. Just light it once and enjoy a complete show.
  • Rockets: Perfect for the midnight moment as they fly high and create big, exciting bursts.
  • Selection Boxes: Perfect for smaller gardens as they offer a safe mix of different effects in one easy pack.
  • Fountains & Low-Level Effects: Ideal for small gardens as they stay low to the ground and don’t need much space.
  • Low-Noise Fireworks: Ideal for those with pets or living near livestock as they give you bright colours without the loud bangs.
  • Sparklers or Spellcasters: Fun and simple for all ages, making them great for keeping everyone entertained while waiting for midnight.

With a simple mix of rockets, fountains and selection-box pieces, you can put on a festive garden display without needing lots of room.

If you’re lucky enough to have more room, then some of our larger display pieces that have a 25 meter safety distance can give you a London Style display in your back garden, making you the talk of the town! Check out the Sky Vandal XL which lasts for over 5 minutes and contains over 600 shots, not wanting to spend that much, then the After Midnight from Black Cat fireworks will do the job.

How to Stay Safe on New Year’s Eve

Whether you’re heading to a public event or planning a small display at home, it’s worth keeping a few safety tips in mind:

If you’re attending an event:

  • Arrive in good time, especially for the midnight displays.
  • Use public transport where possible; roads and parking can be busy.
  • Wrap up warm, as seafront and riverside areas can be cold and windy.
  • Follow any event instructions or viewing-area rules to stay safe.

If you’re having a garden display:

  • Read all instructions on your fireworks before lighting them.
  • Keep a safe distance and make sure everyone watching does too.
  • Never go back to a firework once it’s been lit.
  • Keep a bucket of water or sand nearby, just in case.
  • Make sure pets are indoors and comfortable.

Celebrate Safely and Enjoy the 2026 New Years

Whether you’re heading to one of the big displays in Southend or London, or planning a cosy celebration at home, New Year’s Eve is a chance to welcome the year ahead with something special.

With the right fireworks, a bit of planning and a focus on safety, you can enjoy a memorable night wherever you choose to celebrate.

However you decide to ring in 2026, wrap up warm, stay safe, and enjoy the countdown with friends, family and a sky full of colour.
