Voted Best Compound 2023, and it’s easy to see why. Velocity is a four-cake, 224-shot compound from Vivid that fires a relentless mix of colour, effects and noise at a great pace. With all four cakes already linked, there’s just one fuse to light.

It starts with rapid machine-gun shots of gold coconuts with red, blue, yellow and purple, glittering stars adding another dimension. Further rapid-firing gold kamuro with red, blue and green stars follow, then an eruption of gold with blinking stars of red, green and orange. Gold brocades hit next with an intensity that fills the sky with gold and colour. And just when you think it’s all over, rows of coloured stars to crackling flowers erupt before a finale of whistle, ti-flower and crackling. Velocity is an apt name for this fast-paced firework.

With 1,904g of powder packed into 20mm tubes and a Category F2 classification, it only needs 8 metres of clearance, making it one of the most impressive compounds available for a standard garden.
